Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime. If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and book now.

  • 18+, but if you're accompanied by an adult, you can join us from 16.

  • We're lucky enough to be based on Battlers Green Farm with plenty of free parking - no permits, no meters, no hunting for a space. You'll find us in the third unit on the right as you drive into the farm.

  • We provide tools, clay, towels, tea, coffee, soft drinks and if you're lucky, some farm shop cake! Drop in Potters will be charged by wet weight at bisque stage at £6/Kg. This includes Bisque & Glaze Firing & Studio Glaze; we offer throwing and hand-building clay in a earthenware and stoneware.

An Apron is highly recommended & clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Studio aprons are also available for those who forget.

  • Clay gets everywhere, so please wear something you don't mind getting messy! A few practical tips:

    • Avoid loose sleeves — they'll trail in the clay and water. Short sleeves or sleeves you can push up work best.

    • Skip anything precious or delicate — clay splashes don't always come out in the wash.

    • Closed-toe shoes are a good idea, as the floor can get wet and slippery.

    • Tie long hair back to keep it clear of the wheel.

    • Remove rings, watches, and bracelets before throwing, or you'll be cleaning clay out of them for days.

An apron is highly recommended — please bring your own.

  • We're not a production pottery and space is limited, so we ask students to only keep the pieces they love and discard the rest. Practising the skills you learn is just as important, if not more so than producing large quantities of pots that won't get used. If you're looking to make at higher volumes or on a larger scale, we're happy to recommend other studios in the area that may suit your needs better.

  • Yes, please do! Phones during a demo is absolutely ok for both students and tutors, as long as photography and filming respects the privacy of others.

  • It is not recommended to bring your own glaze unless by prior arrangement due Kiln variabilities

  • Absolutely! Find the course or session you'd like, follow the booking process to checkout, and you'll be prompted to redeem your gift card. Please note: if your gift card doesn't cover the full cost of the booking, you may not be able to complete the purchase. Gift vouchers are valid for 6 months. If you run into any issues, please get in touch with us.

  • Yes — as we have a limited number of wheels and studio spaces, we ask that any cancellations or rescheduling requests are made at least 48 hours before the session start time.

    • 48+ hours' notice: Reschedule free of charge, or receive a full refund or studio credit.

    • Less than 48 hours' notice: Refunds aren't available, as it's unlikely we can refill the space at short notice.

    • Late cancellations or no-shows: The full session fee will be charged, and the booking cannot be transferred or refunded.

    • Transferring your booking: If you can't attend, you're welcome to send someone in your place — just let us know in advance.

    • Exceptional circumstances: We understand emergencies happen and may offer discretionary rescheduling in exceptional cases.

    • Studio cancellations: If we need to cancel a session due to illness, maintenance, low attendance, or circumstances beyond our control, you'll be offered either a full refund or a transfer to another session.

  • Clay is fragile, and kiln firing is never completely predictable — even experienced potters occasionally lose work during drying or firing. By working in a shared studio environment, members understand that pieces may sometimes be damaged while being moved or fired by studio staff. Unfortunately, no refunds or compensation can be offered for accidental breakages.

  • Absolutely! You're more than welcome to join any of our courses, taster sessions, or drop-ins by prior arrangement. There's a small step access (via a 12cm ramp) and room to move around if you use a wheelchair. W/C for wheelchair access is also available onsite. If you'd like to come and look around first, please get in touch and we'll happily arrange a time for you to visit.

  • Yes! Please get in touch with Lee directly for price and availability!

  • Sorry, no. We don't allow animals in the studio, with the exception of working guide dogs.
